Spot-crowned Woodcreeper

Lepidocolaptes affinis

Jennifer Smith

This species is found throughout the central highlands of our region, being replaced by the similar Streak-headed Woodcreeper at lower elevations. There is some overlap in their altitudinal ranges, so this should not be used as an identification criterion in itself, though a decent view of the crown is usually enough to tell which species it is. I have seen this species in Honduras at La Botija, La Muralla, Copan and Cusuco. I have seen them in Guatemala at Biotopo del Quetzal and Fuentes Georginas. I have seen them in El Salvador at Cerro Verde, El Pital and Montecristo.
Recordings of this species can be found on ‘Voices of the Woodcreepers: Family Dendrocolaptidae’ by Hardy, J. W., Parker, T. A. and Coffey, B. B.
