This species is found throughout much of the Caribbean slope
of northern Central America, mainly in the humid lowlands. It
is absent from the arid interior of Honduras and the northernmost
parts of the Peten in northern Guatemala. My only definite sighting
was a bird that Bryan Sharp and I mist-netted below Pico Dama
in the Mosquitia of eastern Honduras (at an altitude of 400m).
I am also pretty sure that I saw one at Tikal, but it was such
a brief view that I cannot be 100% certain. This attractive
bird is very distinctive and is unlikely to go unmissed, so
my lack of sightings must mean that they are pretty uncommon
in the region.
