Nutting's Flycatcher

Myiarchus nuttingi

Tom Jenner

The range map in Howell and Webb includes this species right along the Pacific slope of our region and just extending over the continental divide in places. As with all the flycatchers in the genus Myiarchus, this species is difficult to identify and it is best to use a combination of size, plumage features and vocalisations. I have always found Myiarchus flycatchers to be very difficult and I have only identified this species with certainty at Coyolito and Jicarito in Honduras; at Monterrico in Guatemala and at Laguna Naualapa and Rio Jiboa in El Salvador. All of these sites are on the Pacific coastal plain.
