| The range of this species is confined
to Mexico and northern Central America. I know little about
the status in Mexico, but in Central America it is very locally
distributed. This is probably largely due to the fact that its
main habitat – Pacific slope tropical dry forest –
has been so heavily logged. I have only ever seen them at two
locations; I saw a pair on my one visit to La Botija in Honduras
and they are a common bird at El Imposible in El Salvador. I
have never seen this species in Guatemala. I can remember that
Jason Berry was very pleased to finally find this species after
having lived in Guatemala for several years, though I do not
have details of his sighting. I have made a number of visits
to Walter-Deininger Sanctuary in El Salvador, which seems to
be perfect for this species, but I have never seen it there.
It is not clear why its absent from what appears to be a perfect
location. |
