Crescent-chested
Warbler
Parula
superciliosa

 |
This attractive species is endemic
to Middle America, where it is found in the highlands from northern
Mexico to Nicaragua. It is common in the highlands of Northern
Central America in cloud forest and pine-oak forest. Howell
and Webb place it in the Genus Vermivora, though, to me at least,
it appears to be far more similar in form to other species of
Parula, which is how it is classified by the AOU. This species
tends to stay in the middle to upper parts of the trees where
it is often most easily detected by its distinctive buzzy trill.
In Guatemala I have seen this species at Biotopo del Quetzal,
Fuentes Georginas, San Carlos Sija, Santa Maria de Jesus, Volcan
Agua, Volcan Atitlan and Volcan Chicabal. In El Salvador I have
only seen it at Cerro Verde and Montecristo. In Honduras I have
seen them at Celaque, Guisayote, La Botija and La Tigre.
