Olive-throated
(Aztec) Parakeet
Aratinga
nana

This is an endemic of Middle America that is found from Mexico
to Panama. Throughout its range it is predominantly found on
the Caribbean slope and is only on the Caribbean slope in our
region, though not reaching all the way to continental divide.
On the Pacific slope it is replaced by the Orange-fronted Parakeet.
Howell and Webb give the primary habitat as forests, but I tend
to think of this as a species of more open areas, though this
may just be because they are easier to locate. My only sightings
in Guatemala have been at Tikal and at a place called Finca
Ixobal, near Poptun. I have seen them in Honduras at Lancetilla,
Las Marias, Comayagua, Pico Bonito, the Aguan Valley, Cerro
Azul, Copan, Cuero y Selado and the coastal Mosquitia region.
